In this first post I would like to explain this weblog's name.
Deimos was the name of a Newsmagazine I co-founded in Buenos Aires, Argentina, back in 1999-2000.
The name was chosen more for how it sounded rather than for what it meant.
But personally I thought it really captured the spirit of our time. Indeed, Deimos is a greek semi-god and also means panic in greek. He is the son of Ares (Mars) and Aphrodite (Venus) and also the brother of Phobos (greek for "fear") .
Like many myths the story contains many hidden meanings, but I will not spend too much time on this for now.
At the time, this "panic" could be seen in many of our individual decisions, like the founding of the magazine, my coming to Argentina, and so on.
In a way it was fuelled by the end of the millenium and its cohort of inconscious and irrational feelings. But the most important thing is that it made me realize that it was it was a creative panic.
It might not have continued very long (only 3 issues) because of the economic context but it was definitely creative and worthwhile.
Today as I start writing in this Blog, using the same name, I definitely feel this same panic and urge to create something and I think it will be put to good use
